JUN WU:

To many, learning Chinese is just studying a tool to communicate, but for me, studying Chinese has become a part of my life. I used to be drawn to Chinese culture and language, but China was such a distant thought. How could I learn more about this enchanting Eastern culture? After I came to China, I discovered that all of my self-study had been for nothing. I couldn’t understand most of what people said, and they had a hard time understanding me. I had forgotten that the best way to study a language is in a guided language environment! After coming to Harvest Chinese, I found that I learned much faster with their teaching, and after a while, I surprised my Chinese friends with my progress! Learning Chinese has helped me understand the thinking and concepts behind Chinese culture, so that I can communicate without any language or cultural barrier at all! I can talk to my Chinese friends !about more profound subjects, and read Chinese literature with ease. Harvest Chinese has opened a new world for me!

Tyler Cotton:

Tian Laoshi taught our drill classes at Middlebury, which normally consist of reviewing the week's material via repetitious practicing of sentences and phrases. Tian Laoshi, however, turned this otherwise dull activity into fun with inventive games and activities and clear instruction. As I recall, she was always smiling or laughing, and her enthusiasm infected the entire class

Bernard Geoxavier:

My name is Bernard Geoxavier, a Middlebury College graduate of 2007 and a Hopkins-Nanjing graduate of 2010. I first started studying with Tian Laoshi when she was a visiting lecturer in Chinese at Middlebury College. Later, as I traveled to Beijing to conduct first-hand research on my graduate thesis last spring I discovered he was still teaching, and so I asked where I could sign up. Her program was outstanding! Not only where Chinese languages classes specifically tailored for my needs, she also actively worked at ways to incorporate my research and interests into her instruction. This wasn't your cookie-cutter style of Chinese language course, she truly cares about making sure her students express themselves as articulately and clearly as possible. One week, she even came with me and had class at the National Achieves as she only helped me get a hold of primary source documents, she also made sure to use copies of them in our classes so that I really got the most out of it. Her classes were a huge help, I'll definitely be signing up again next time I'm in town!
